German-born but Ibiza-based Defex steps up to Moon Harbour to remix label head Matthias Tanzmann’s classic 2016 cut ‘Chano.’
Defex is a pillar of the Ibizan scene as a resident at Pikes and also 528, and a key member of The Zoo Project team. He’s a seasoned artist who can serve up balmy summer sounds or gritty club cuts alike and has been doing so for many years, everywhere from Pokerflat to Terminal M. In the club, he blurs the lines between DJing and playing live thanks to his mastery of loops and effects, and brings all that to this new remix.
His fantastic take on ‘Chano’ maintains some of the original carnival charm and percussive patter of the original but turns up the groove. The drums here are warm, bold and dubby as they drive on with luminous synth stabs, raw hits, and the curious vocal bringing off-beat charm. It’s a steamy sound for unifying dance floors of all sizes.
Like DJ CHUS’s rework of this cut back in 2020, Defex brings all new energy to a Tanzmann classic.
