Long-time Moon Harbour associates Luna City Express have assembled a collection of eight of their most essential tracks.
German duo Marco Resmann and Norman Weber have been at the sharp end of the underground for 26 years now and, in that time, have helped define many different styles of house. They have dropped plenty of club classics and standout remixes with signature grooves that roam across the spectrum. This collection pulls together some of their favourites on Moon Harbour from over the years.
First is ‘Mr Jack’ a collab from 2020 featuring Aaron Palmer, with a raw, stripped-back groove and dark vocals underpinned by a bouncy bassline. ‘Fresh’ from 2005 is a deeper and more lithe cut with wispy synths and lush piano chords, then ‘Saturday’ is future-facing big room tech house that came as Moon Harbour’s 100th release in 2017. 2015 brought ‘Into Your Soul’, a deep and introspective groove with RAD’s soulful vocals drifting through the mix. 2010’s ‘Gloria’ featuring Sigrid Elliot, is a chunkier sound with big bass and shuffling drums and ‘Get High’ sinks into a seriously dubby mid-tempo rhythm that’s laced with heady pads and spoken-word musings. ‘Soul on Soul’ shows Luna City Express’s deft melodic touch with a silky after-dark atmosphere then closer ‘The Next Level’ features legendary house vocalist Roland Clark. He also wrote the lyrics for the track, which is powered by a warped theremin bassline and filled with atmospheric effects.
This collection shows that Luna City Express has always evolved their style while staying true to their original house values, and that’s why they remain one of the scene’s most reliable innovators.
